"PPR" stands for Precise Perception Radius. It is the range of an elf's telepathic perception. A typical elf has a PPR of about 40 feet/ 12 meters, meaning he/she will know the EXACT location (in reference to self) of any other elves within 40 feet radius, just by using telepathy.

Very generally speaking, elves with higher PPR are better magic users in general. There are many exceptions, though. An elf with a low PPR may be an excellent magic user otherwise. Chi-Min is an example of that.

Shepherds are telepathy specialists who do some defensive magic on the side. They tend to have greater PPR range. The minimum PPR required of a shepherd is 90 feet/ 27.5 meters; most have around 200-400feet.

PPR above 600 feet is rare. The official world record is 2.2miles/ 3.5km, held by an artificial elf named Dmitri. Note, though, that they did not have a reliable way of measuring PPR beyond ~300 meters up until ten years ago.

Elves can still sense each other even when they're outside of their PPR. Their preception won't be as accurate or precise, but as long as the target does not get too far, they can still feel.

There are different types of elves with regards to PPR:
1. Focused - Telepathic perception decreases dramatically as the target moves away from the PPR.
2. Diffuse - Telepathic perception decreases gradually as the target moves away from the PPR.
3. Balanced - somewhere between Focused and Diffuse.
Mana has 380 feet PPR, and she is of the Focused type. An elf with a 300 feet Diffuse PPR may be better than Mana at sensing a target 450 feet away.
Variations exist even within these categories, but I think that's enough information for now.

Contest: GUESS THE ELF CHARACTERS' PPR! 
List of the elves:
Chi-Min: Diffuse type, PPR ???
Bri: Balanced type, PPR ???
Mana: Focused type, PPR 380 feet/ 116 meters (answer already given)
Phoenix: Balanced type, PPR ???
Post your guesses for all three characters. You can use either feet or meters for unit of measurement. Phoenix is an exception: for her, you will want to use miles/ kilometers instead of feet/ meters.
The person who correctly guesses any of these characters will get a free sketch from me! Contest runs from now til November 14th. If nobody gets it right by then, I will pick the person with the closest guess.
There will be only ONE winner per character. If two or more people post correct guesses, I will do a coin toss or something. One person can only win once.

Rules about the prize:
If you win, you can request what you want me to draw for you. I've got some caveats, though...
 You MUST have accurate reference pictures of the character that you want me to draw. Text-only descriptions are not enough.
Give me a brief description of what the character is like. I will design the picture based on that. You may leave it completely up to me, or you may suggest a pose/situation, but keep in mind I might decide to do something a bit different.
Please don't request anything ridiculously complex. It's just a sketch, after all. ^^; If your request is too complex, I will interpret it and simplify it as I see fit.
Only ONE character in the pic! If it's Haru-Sari characters, though, I'll do up to two characters.
Certain subject matters/ themes will be rejected. For example, don't request porn. Keiiii no draw porn. |

Well, if Phoenix can apparently "easily" see over 30 miles...
Chi-Min: PPR 35 ft (changed guess)
Bri: PPR 350 ft
Phoenix: PPR 60 miles

Hint:
Back in Chapter 6 you'll see that Chi-Min was actually very close to Bri, but was not able to determine her exact location. Part of it is Bri's sign being weak (since she was unconscious and stuff) at the moment, but his narrow PPR range has something to do with it too.
If you want to change your guess, feel free to do it before the end of the contest. ^^ |
