Is it just me, or does Cygnet look rather spaced in that last panel? Is power borrowing akin to taking drugs? LOL Still, I can understand the slight worry he's feeling right now...

(StillnoChiwhere'sChi???)

Oooh, there's tea on the go? Yesplease Very Happy

People are sooooooo gotten throw rotten fruit and veggies at me for this.

The more I read, the more I come to the opinion that Phoenix is a mary-sue. It's just... Ohmygoodness! She's this ultra-powerful elf that no one could ever hope to beat in a fair (or unfair) fight! Plus she has a tragic past. And she has an interest in our main male character. But where are her FLAWS? I mean non-physical. Please tell me she's a puppy kicker or insecure or -something-!

Who knows... Maybe when we get more information, I'll change my mind. It's possible.

Well the question wasn't directed at me, but it's my name too so I shall answer for you!

The question you should be asking is not "who" but "what" is a Mary-Sue. Basically, Mary-Sue is a term used to describe a (bad) self-inserty-type OC who is usually uber in terms of power, generally extremely beautiful, has all the good-looking guys following her around like lost puppies and very few flaws. Oh yes, and the tragic past. You can't forget the tragic past.

The male variant is known as a Gary-Stu, but I don't think that's sused so much any more.

*finds internet definition*

Wikipedia saves the day

And @Sarah - she is a tad uber, isn't she? XD

hmmm... I thought the male equivalent of a "Mary Sue" Was a Marty-stu
Anyways ... AGH! I can't think of anything story relevant to say! At least not beyond Phoenix sounding disturbingly calm to me. Maybe she's totally freaked I dunno.

And I thought the male equivalent was the Gary Sue......

Phoenix a Mary Sue? It's okay, Alby makes up for it being her brother...who probably took all her non-Mary-Sue-ness all away! *Nods like she knows what she's talking about*[/i]

Well, it's ok, actually, 'cause Phoenix has flaws. It's all very well be uber-powerful, but it means relatively little when a) your overprotective bog brother won't let you use much of it and b) you're attached to a bed with... Growths of some sort. Uck. I don't actually know what they are, but whatever.

inregardstovoicesquestion, hmhm... I always pictured Alberich to have a kind of tenor voice, not deep bass like, uh... Vincent from FF7 springs to mind, but that same kind of richness and tone to it.

Phoenix has never had a defined voice to me, mostly because it took me a while to figure out exactly what age she looked *hides* but in her telepathy form, she'd have a kind voice, like... The sort of voice that the women who look after kids in movies always have? Wow, that description failed immensely...

In Regards To Page. That black swirly thing she did with Alby/Cygnet, did she use that on Chi before? Or was it Chi who used it? I forget -_-

To me it's clear Phoenix has flaws. Sure the uber powerfulness makes her seem daunting but there are limitations. Her power hurts her so using too much of it might be the reason she's in the infirmary. She also seems insecure considering the more recent page and pages in the past. When the flashback first started you see her in her room, covered in her blanket looking like she wanted the people at the door to just disappear, the exception being her brother. Even now she looks like she wouldn't know what to do if they took him away. Also, I don't think her knowledge of spells is too wide. Sure she knows how to teleport people and read minds, but other than that what does she have outside of bursts of magic that could make people explode. Blink
On the not of infatuation with the main character, we're still not completely sure WHY she wanted to see him again. It could be because she loves him (I would think more like a brother, but who knows), or it could be some reason we haven't found yet in the flashback. We'll just have to wait and see for that one.
In terms of the voices... um Phoenix when she's older in telepathy I think would have something akin to Galadriel's voice in the Lord of the Rings movies. Younger would have more of a girlish, cutesy voice, kind of like some elementary school girls.. Cygnet/Alby younger would have a more teenish boy voice... yeah.... and older I think he would sound like my dad (weird as that sounds). Kind of voice you would hear on the radio with creepier tones when he begins to sound threatening.

I'd argue that Phoenix is *perhaps* a little bit powerful, but is not really a Mary Sue, especially if my theories about Phoenix are correct.

Cyngent = Vic Mignogna
Phoenix = Rie Kugimiya

Clearly.

hmm... somehow i doubt kei will break her "no one in my comic has a nice personality" streak. >=] I could always be wrong, though.

humm... is phoenix really that likeable, though? =| I'm dubious. Powerful, yes. And... forsrs, she looks like she's about to kick the bucket... and people always do crazy things when their lives are in danger before they want to "go". (I TRUST YOU, KEI. D=< )

I think one of the messages of Haru-Sari about having a lot of power is that it comes with so many consequences, including an almost certain guarantee of death. I think Chi-Min and Phoenix are pretty good examples in the choice between life and power. In that, I don't think Phoenix is a Mary Sue. She isn't perfect, with that power, comes a really terrible burden.
