I've been thinking: since we now know a bit more about Alby's past thanks to recent pages, why don't we pick apart his interview and examine it a bit more closely? If we put our brains together and sum up what we know, who knows what crazy theories we could come up with? XD

I'll just point out some stuff I noticed.

Do you have any special pet peeves?

...this isn't exactly a pet peeve, but I cannot stand anything that wraps around my wrists, including wrist watches. Pocket watches are much more comfortable, I find, not to mention classy.

I've been wondering about this, but it's kinda obvious now that he was never fond of the bracelets the scientists made him wear.

Where do you go to relax on your time off?

Nothing beats home if you just want to relax.

Really small detail, but if you had a little sister that hasn't spoken to anyone but yourself in how-many-years, you'd spend most of your spare time around her, right?

Do you love anyone? Other than yourself, that is.

....Would it surprise you if I said yes?

Not anymore >_>

Are you always this calm and collected? Nothing seems to bother you, so what would it take to make you snap?

Why, I will take that as a compliment. That reminds me. Someone once told me that... that I would never snap because I never had any self-control to begin with. Obviously she was mistaken -- I mean, being a successful CEO requires a great deal of resolve. Yet it was such a curious statement that I can't seem to forget it, even after all these years

Wonder who "she" is? Was it Phoenix, or Emily, or a scientist, or Random-Female-Elf-That-May-Or-May-Not-Be-Missing-A-Leg?

You were approximately 14-15 at the time of the Catastrophe of 1442, weren't you? Do you remember what it was like? What were you doing, at the time?

Do I remember what it was like? Do I, by any chance, remember the most unforgettable days of my life? The end of my childhood? I think I do.

...I was... busy trying to survive out on the streets. For a homeless kid with a growing boy's appetite, half a million people dying in some distant location doesn't quite matter as much as finding a meal. Heh.

Am I the only person who has an odd feeling that this is not quite the truth? He's 11 in the current flashback, so it's possible he's not lying, but I don't like that pause.

What do you think of elves? Do you dislike them?

Not at all! They are people, just like you and I, only a tad more fascinating in my personal opinion.

I'm not even going to bother explaining why this isn't surprising in the slightest.

Do you have a favorite color?

Vermilion. Bright reds and oranges, fiery shades. ...Like in one of those particularly intense sunsets, you know?

Keiiii's even pointed this one out on her Deviantart, but for those who don't check it, I just want to point that out. Geez, it looks like Phoenix is on Al's mind about 90% of the time. Or more.

How far would you go to impress the ladies? Or, erm... gentleman?

You know, not to sound conceited or anything -- but I think that just being myself is enough to impress most ladies.

>_>

I've got plenty of empirical evidence to back that up, too.

Say Cheese, the Asian Way! XD

...I kinda just wanted to get this up and running, so, uh... Comments? Other stuff you noticed? Problem with my tendency to point out obvious things?

Ooh, I smell an excellent discussion!

The only thing I want to point out is that Alberich/Cygnet is 14 in the current flashback. He's currently 37; the flashback in chapter 21 is from 23 years ago. (He was 11 in the flashback in Chapter 20, which is from 26 years ago.)

Oh >_> Missed that. That makes it even more suspicious. The Catastrophe was apparently caused by a bunch of elves trying to escape, right?

Yay for excellent discussions!

Oh wow, this is really interesting. I have to read that interview over again, maybe I could find something too~~

...I can't stand having things around my wrists either, but not for any particular justified reason like what Alby has. xD;
I also can't stand having things around my neck (necklaces etc.) or, well, wearing anything other than loose clothes, in the end.

BUT ANYWAYS
Knowing Alby's past like this is going to give our little elf doctor soooo many ways to tease him now... xD

Heh, I have wrist-phobia too. The only thing I can stand on my wrists is watches, ironically.

Hmm. The end of his childhood? If all of his childhood was in the facility... Well, I suppose that speaks for itself.

This was pointed out by someone else (can'trememberwho) in the discussion thread, but I re-read the interview and his ears are strange. I can't believe I never noticed it before. It's odd how you don't notice obvious things until they're pointed out, isn't it?

Resolve is not necessarily the same thing as self-control, is it, though? I reember finding this statement odd when I first read the interview, and tbh still can't figure it out completely. It could be connected to any number of things.

...I'll go back to lurking now... Heh... A good idea, this thread, a very good idea, I must say.

Zug: "What type of books do you read?"

Elfology literature. Those take up the vast majority of my reading time. Not only are they relevant to my work, I happen to be quite engrossed with the subject on a personal level in case you haven't noticed. I also flip through encyclopedias for fun sometimes. *chuckles* What else... Some autobiographies here and there -- oh, and Raggins if comic strips count.

Just to point out that it is it personal on two levels ;]

By the way I love this comic! It is so engrossing Smile

Yeah! Discussion!
Sorry to hear of the technical difficulties Keiiii...>"<

I don't really have much to add expect maybe a bit of a thought provoking question...
Did the disaster happen because the elves were trying to escape, or they escaped because the disaster happened? We know that elves are responsible, but did they actively caused it, or was it simply a stroke of luck?

Bit of stretch but here I go:
Alby-kun wrote:

This is probably nothing but Alby's (Technically Cygnet's) "limit" would be the island research facility/it's guards/the doctors etc. etc. how would he overcome them?
What'd I tell you, huge stretch.

I had been toying with the idea of doing a side story chapter on the character who said that. Smile She is no longer alive, by the way. Surprise surprise.

Hmm, time to go make a side story thread...

OOH! OOH! I found something thats very slightly less of a stretch!

How was he acquainted with Noel? Were they friends? Lovers? Or did Noel have to track down Cygnet before he killed someone?
... no proof at all but still I just wanted to point out a random thing ...

For some reason, I don't think Alberich was in need of a friend or lover, since he only cares about Phoenix. The last option seems interesting, but it had to happen somewhere between Cygnet's escape from the research facility and the moment his foster father took him in.

Speeking of which:
Quote:
mental: "Are you close to your family?"

Family... Who knows? Maybe I would be if I had one. The only person that qualifies would be my late foster father. He and I were not very close, admittedly. Not that we didn't get along. Neither of us spent much time at home, so we barely saw each other.

Strangely, he said before that 'nothing beats home'. The only reason why Alberich wouldn't spend much time at home, is because he had to take care of Phoenix, I think. But if she was already hidden when Alberich lived with his foster father, then how many years has Phoenix been living in that ghosttown? Blink
This is just my weird theorizing. Please don't mind if it doesn't make any sense ^^

Noel and Alberich had a strange relationship. Both are heterosexual, so no, they weren't lovers. I want to say Noel thought of Alberich as a friend while Alberich was merely using him... but that'd be extreme over-simplification. There was much less hostility between those two than between Alberich and Leon, that's for sure.

Alberich is older than Noel, so Noel tracking him down on a mission would not be much of a possibility.

I'm... not 100% sure how long she's been in there. Years, definitely, but how many? I'm still working that out. Here's what I know for certain, though:

1) She wasn't stuck in that room when her brother was adopted.

2) Only her brother was adopted. The father wasn't even aware of Phoenix's existence.

3) Cygnet/Francis never really bonded with the father. The adoption was a part of his climb-up-the-social-ladder plan. The father was only being used.

Cygnet and the father had an interesting relationship too... I really want to do the side story and show what happened. ;_;

Go ahead, we wanna hear/see it! There will be fun.

Oh, and by the way.

temporos: "64% of people polled believe you would eat lake trout. Would you eat lake trout? If so, would you eat it with butter, tartar sauce, or lemon?"

Sorry to disappoint those who voted in your poll, but I happen to be allergic to fish.

I wasn't here when the question suggestion thread was around, but I have an odd feeling this was on purpose XD
