AThe Coldest Morning

Chi-Min and June, uh, standing around pretentiously! 😀 Hm, Chi-Min looks a bit taller than he should be. Oh well.
This one looks a bit different from my usual stuff; you can blame the new coloring technique for that. Instead of jumping from drawing to colors, I put the values first (shading), then tossed the colors over it. Apparently, it’s a modus operandi often employed in traditional oil painting. And I can kinda see that in this picture: it’s got this oil-painty feel to it, even though I worked digitally.
In retrospect, the whole procedure was a great learning experience. I’ll definitely use the shading-first method again. And I’ll try not to screw up the perspective next time!

The top picture of Haru-sari.com’s very first layout! Also, it’s a reject for the first cover. The picture started out looking fine, but something went terribly wrong in the coloring process. Most likely, I had forgotten how to color, after months of doing nothing but B&W; linearts for my job. The only reason I used it on the mainpage is… well, it actually doesn’t look that bad there, for some reason.
I do like the way June’s left hand came out, though. *pokes June’s hand* And Chi-Min’s eyes! *pokes his eyeballs*
Speaking of forgetting, June’s skirt is supposed to have jaguar pattern on it. I did the same thing — left out the pattern — on the new version of the cover. Grr…

I’m clumping the two pictures together because it feels like it’s meant to be that way. Two people, both fated to die young… they have very different way of dealing with it. While June tries to fight it, Chi-Min seems nonchalant. The two pictures captured it so well!
